Restoring an old night stand – DIY step by step
This post will show you step by step guide of how to renovate antique night stand using only paint, grit paper, couple of new handle and screws.
Take old furniture.
If the legs and other pieces are removable, remove them – sanding will be easier for you.
Keep sanding until the surface is free from all old varnish – use 100 or 120 grit paper. A piece of advice: use a dust mask and also a safety goggles to protect yourself from the dust.
By the hard approachable surface use a rotary sanding tool.
Then patch the fragments of the furniture. Still use the old screws because of paintwork. Brush the dust off.
Use wood repair putty to remove all damage of the wood. Drying time 30 min to 2 hour. Sanding again – use 180 grit paper.
A wet rag wipe the surface.
The next step, paintwork: we used off white colored satin enamel with primer. Use spreader for the better cover.
Repaint the surface in 12 hours.
By the case we used blue enamel.
We decorated the front of the case special pattern – first step, use dust tape.
We used 3 types of acrylic paint.
New handle and new furniture screws.
The final result looks like this.
